Applied Medical Visualizations LLC (Medvis), a medical information visualization company, announced today that it has established a new patent license agreement with GE Healthcare, a subsidiary of the General Electric Company (NYSE: GE).

The agreement provides GE Healthcare’s anesthesia business a nonexclusive license to a variety of Medvis intellectual property including patents relating to anesthesia drug and graphic display monitoring. This agreement replaces the 2005 agreement between both parties and includes a simplified payment structure. Specific terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

“Medvis is very pleased to have reached a new intellectual property licensing agreement with GE Healthcare and we are looking forward to collaboration in the development of cutting-edge pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamics modeling technologies,” said Jim Agutter, president of Medvis.

The patents held by Medvis cover a wide range of technologies, including pharmacologic display technologies for monitoring, diagnosis and evaluation. The systems use display objects to facilitate rapid cognitive grasp of the overall state of drug combination effects. Objects change in real time to show the changes of certain functions. Doctors can use the displayed data in the process of monitoring or administering drugs to a patient as well as predicting anesthesia drug effects.

“Medvis has been working with GE Healthcare's expert group of engineers and researchers for a number of years to provide more effective presentations of medical information to anesthesiologists,” said a spokesperson for GE.
