Zynx Health Kicks Off Pilot Program Focusing on Healthcare Reform

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Zynx Health, the market leader in providing evidence-based and experience-based clinical decision support solutions, today announced the kickoff of a pilot program addressing a new focus on healthcare reform and preparing for accountable care organizations (ACOs). Most experts believe that the critical success factor for succeeding in a reformed healthcare system will be reducing undesirable variations in care and the ability to influence clinical decisions. It is believed that 80% to 90% of healthcare costs are directly or indirectly influenced by clinical decisions, and quality outcomes are dependent on the quality of clinical decisions. Clinical decision support is the scalable and sustainable approach to influencing clinical decisions.

Five healthcare organizations will partner with Zynx Health to pilot a new service and software solution that analyzes their clinical decision support and provides recommended tactics for them to implement as they strive to become accountable for cost and quality outcomes as outlined in the recent Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010. The five pilot sites are: Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in California, Memorial Hermann Healthcare System in Texas, Northwest Hospital & Medical Center in Washington, St. Joseph Health System in California and Texas, and WellStar Health System in Atlanta.

Zynx Health has developed an offering of products and services geared towards supporting healthcare organizations as they work to optimize clinical decision support to improve mortality rates, readmission rates, hospital length of stay, and total healthcare costs. "We are excited to pilot this solution as it will give us the ability to see the direct impact of clinical decision support in achieving improvements in patient outcomes at a reduced cost," says Dr. Jon Morris, the chief medical information officer of WellStar Health in Marietta, Georgia.

The pilot program will assess hospitals' clinical processes and workflows to identify key clinical processes required to become more efficient and effective. "By identifying the clinical processes that represent the greatest opportunity, we will be able to target our efforts to achieve better outcomes clinically and financially," says Dr. Greg Schroedl, the chief medical officer of Northwest Hospital & Medical Center in Washington. "This approach will help lay the clinical foundation for our healthcare reform journey."

The pilot offering will also identify potential barriers to clinical decision support adoption. "Zynx Health's mission has been to ‘measurably improve the quality, safety, and efficiency of patient care' since 1996. We are honored that these forward thinking organizations have chosen to partner with Zynx Health on this exciting pilot aimed at improving financial and clinical outcomes," says Scott Weingarten, MD, MPH, the chief executive officer of Zynx Health. "Together we will work to uncover areas that will support them on their journey to succeeding in a reformed healthcare system." In addition, Zynx Health will work to ensure consistency of clinical decision support across the continuum, both in the hospital and ambulatory setting.
