NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The law firm of Wohl & Fruchter LLP has commenced an investigation into allegations that Community Health Systems, Inc. (NYSE:CYH) has engaged in the systematic overbilling of Medicare in connection with admitting patients to its hospitals.
The allegations were raised in a federal civil complaint filed yesterday by Tenet Healthcare Corp. (THC) in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas. Specifically, the complaint alleges that CYH has improperly, secretly, and systematically admitted patients into its hospitals despite no clinical need. The complaint further alleges that such improper practices “served to overstate [CYH’s] growth statistics, revenues, and profits, and [have] created a substantial undisclosed financial and legal liability to the federal government, numerous state governments, private insurance companies, and patients.”
