West Carroll Health Systems Achieves Stage 1 Meaningful Use with Healthland Electronic Health Record Solution

Healthland client to receive incentive funds under the Medicare EHR Incentive Program

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Healthland, America's market leader of healthcare information technology solutions for rural hospitals, today announced that its client, West Carroll Health Systems, has achieved Stage 1 Meaningful Use. After a successful 90-day reporting period of its comprehensive electronic health record (EHR) capabilities, West Carroll Health Systems will now receive funding under the Medicare EHR Incentive Program. Last spring, the hospital received over $700,000 in EHR Incentive funds from Louisiana Medicaid. West Carroll Health Systems serves residents in Northeast Louisiana and Southeast Arkansas.

“This announcement is one of the first in the rural hospital market and an important achievement for West Carroll Health Systems,” said Angie Franks, Healthland president and CEO. “We have worked side by side with the West Carroll team on their journey toward Meaningful Use to ensure they have the highest EHR functionality and capabilities critical to the delivery of quality patient care in their rural community. The Healthland EHR solution has also helped West Carroll meet the guidelines necessary to receive EHR incentive funds much faster than originally expected.”

West Carroll Health Systems successfully completed the attestation of Stage 1 Meaningful Use achievement on June 20, at the conclusion of its 90-day EHR Reporting Period. To qualify for funding under the Medicare EHR Incentive Program, eligible hospitals must demonstrate meaningful use of certified EHR technology through the submission of data for 14 Core Set Objectives, five Menu Set Objectives and 15 Clinical Quality Measures via the CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) Attestation System.

“Healthland is more than an EHR provider, they have really been a great advocate and resource for us,” said Randy Morris, CEO of West Carroll Health Systems. “Healthland’s Meaningful Use Quality Indicator enabled us to run reports that were invaluable during this process. With the help of the Healthland team, we used the Meaningful Use report on a regular basis. The reporting tool has made our achievement of Meaningful Use much easier than we originally anticipated. Today, we are proud to report that we are the first hospital in Louisiana to achieve Meaningful Use.”

The Meaningful Use-certified, Healthland Inpatient EHR is a central repository of all patient information and serves as a primary catalyst for improvements in quality of care, patient safety and cost-effective operations. From order entry to the secure viewing, sharing and retrieval of patient medical records, the Healthland EHR automates information management at every point of patient care, admission through discharge.

“In the end, it’s all about patient care and Healthland has provided us with a complete EHR solution that enables us to improve the patient experience with increased care, safety, and convenience,” added Morris. “However, without the EHR Incentive funding, we would not be able to provide this level of quality healthcare for our family, friends and neighbors in our community.”

Officials at West Carroll Health Systems are now preparing to apply for their second Medicaid incentive payment, expected to total over $500,000.

“The Healthland EHR solution is bringing measurable results for clients like West Carroll,” added Franks. “This announcement further demonstrates Healthland’s ability to help our clients achieve Meaningful Use and receive incentive payments. This is the first of many Healthland client announcements we expect to make in the coming months.”
