Facing the challenges of shifting reimbursement patterns, healthcare reform-related policy and quality mandates, and meaningful use requirements under the ARRA-HITECH Act, Wentworth-Douglass Hospital's clinician and executive leaders looked to optimize their surgical services to improve the cost-effectiveness and quality of the services they deliver.

"Ultimately, our goal is to provide the best patient care and patient experience possible," said Gregory Walker, FACHE, President & CEO of Wentworth-Douglass. "We are impressed with SIS' functionality and sophisticated reporting tools. SIS will give us the clinical tools necessary to help us continually improve our processes and support our goals to provide high-quality, safe and efficient care. "In addition to advanced reporting capabilities with analytics, Wentworth-Douglass' implementation of the Siemens perioperative management solution by SIS will also include:

  • Nursing and anesthesia documentation, contributing to a comprehensive patient record and streamlining clinical workflows;
  • Surgical scheduling, including pre-admission testing scheduling, to reduce delays and cancelled cases; and
  • Patient tracking through all phases of care to help better manage day of surgery.

Interoperability and data exchange between the hospital's Siemens Soarian® health information system and SIS will facilitate the continuous flow of patient information across the perioperative department and throughout the hospital.

"SIS' advanced integration capabilities with our Soarian system will support our efforts to improve patient care and improve efficiencies," said Jeff Pollock, CIO at Wentworth-Douglass. "By implementing a specialized surgical and anesthesia solution that integrates into our Soarian system, we can achieve a more complete perioperative record which aids in demonstrating meaningful use and achieving appropriate reimbursements."

"In today's climate, hospitals are under tremendous pressure to reduce costs, ensure reimbursements, and deliver high quality care," said Ed Daihl, SIS Chief Executive Officer. "With rich functionality and integration with their enterprise IT system, our solution is proven to help hospitals like Wentworth-Douglass optimize the financial engine of their hospital."
