Welch Allyn CardioPerfect™ Workstation Software 1.6.4 Upgrade Expands and Simplifies Ability to Perform Spirometry Testing

Spirometry module enhancements improve the clinician’s ability to comply with the latest guidelines of the American Thoracic Society

SKANEATELES FALLS, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Welch Allyn, a leading manufacturer of frontline medical products and solutions, today announced the release of its CardioPerfect™ Workstation (CPWS) software version 1.6.4, the next generation of the company’s electronic health record (EHR)-ready software that allows digital storage and more efficient review of diagnostic test data from a variety of different electronic devices. This software upgrade expands and simplifies the ability to perform spirometry testing in medical practices working in thin-client environments. In addition, the updated spirometry module improves the clinician’s ability to comply with the latest guidelines of the American Thoracic Society (ATS) by providing enhanced real-time quality feedback for both adult and pediatric patients.

CardioPerfect Workstation version 1.6.4 also introduces an enterprise-class configuration management feature that allows an application service provider (ASP) to conveniently manage multiple hosted physician practices on the same server, while keeping individual practice data and configuration settings separate and secure. And, with the release of this current upgrade, all CPWS clinical modules are 64-bit compatible and support the latest Windows operating systems while maintaining 32-bit compatibility.

“We are excited about the increased capabilities offered by the CardioPerfect™ Workstation software version 1.6.4 as more and more physicians look to implement an EHR in their practices for greater efficiency and better patient care, and expect their medical devices to simply connect,” said Frits Kroon, global category director, Cardiopulmonary. “This next-generation software includes thin-client support for two of the most common procedures—spirometry and ECG—giving health care professionals the advantage of managing diagnostic information even more efficiently and effectively. The enhanced quality feedback for spirometry will allow healthcare professionals to more easily perform spirometry tests, especially on younger patients.”

Welch Allyn has seen an increase in EHR deployment in thin-client environments as physicians look to take advantage of funds available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, which provides an estimated $19 billion in incentives over a five-year period to physicians and hospitals seeking to integrate and use certified EHRs for improved patient care. The new software helps answer that need and allows healthcare professionals greater flexibility to manage cardiopulmonary test data in a single environment without additional IT installations or investments. In addition, the product provides a paperless solution that works seamlessly in today’s advanced healthcare IT environments.

“This multifaceted software is ideal for healthcare professionals using or considering an EHR in a thin-client environment,” added Kroon. “The Welch Allyn CardioPerfect™ Workstation offers physicians the productivity benefits of device connectivity, which, in turn, allows them more time to focus on patient care.”

The CardioPerfect™ Workstation software version 1.6.4 also offers improved workflow and user-friendly click-through installation. Other CPWS clinical modules include Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring and Exercise Stress Testing. Holter Monitoring also is available through a seamless plug-in.

According to Kroon, Welch Allyn has chosen to interface its CardioPerfect product with EMR software so potential customers will not have to wait for their EMR vendor to integrate the new release. “From day one CardioPerfect 1.6.4 will work with all 33 EMR programs we have interfaces with in the US today. If the EMR works in a thin-client setting, CardioPerfect can be interfaced and deployed in that setting right away. This allows us to focus on creating new interfaces with our ever expanding list of EMR vendors, without having to revisit them with every software change we make.”
