Welch Allyn Acquires Assets of TRIMLINE Medical Products

New Jersey-based company’s devices to round out Welch Allyn blood pressure product offering

SKANEATELES FALLS, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Welch Allyn, a leading global manufacturer of frontline medical products and solutions, today announced the asset acquisition of TRIMLINE Medical Products Corporation of Branchburg, NJ. TRIMLINE is a manufacturer of a full range of disposable blood pressure cuffs and accessories as well as aneroid gauges and stethoscopes.

According to Welch Allyn President and CEO, Julie Shimer, this acquisition offers Welch Allyn a unique opportunity to better serve its customers by offering them a more complete line of blood pressure measurement products.

“Today’s acquisition of TRIMLINE Medical Products is exciting news for Welch Allyn and is in keeping with our long-term strategic direction of increasing customer focus, and providing our customers with solutions for their clinical needs,” said Shimer. “Highly-regarded for quality and innovation, TRIMLINE products have a solid customer base, and the addition of these devices into our already outstanding portfolio of blood pressure products will allow us offer to a more comprehensive range of vital signs measurement and infection control solutions.”

Originally produced by PyMaH Corporation, TRIMLINE products were first introduced in 1969. TRIMLINE Medical Products Corporation was established in 1996 by two former PyMaH executives, Richard F. Jacobson and Paul Von der Heyden, after PyMaH was acquired by 3M Corporation. The newly-formed company purchased the PyMaH blood pressure line from 3M in 1997. In 2005, TRIMLINE Medical Products acquired a diagnostic stethoscope product line from Doctor’s Research Group, and, later that year, purchased the blood pressure cuff product business from Kimberly-Clark.

Welch Allyn has been in the business of blood pressure products since 1986, when it purchased the Tycos blood pressure division, then owned by Sybron Corp., which included a full line of manual blood pressure gauges and stethoscopes, including the Tycos Class Hand Aneroid. The Tycos sphygmomanometer stood as the standard instrument of care for its accurate and reliable blood pressure readings, and the design was an industry standard until the 2001 introduction of Welch Allyn DuraShock technology—a gear-free device with more robust parts that can withstand dropping or rough handling.

“This family-owned business is a vital cornerstone to Central New York’s economy,” said Empire State Development Chairman & CEO designate Dennis M. Mullen. “Through today’s acquisition, the company continues its long-term success through innovation and attention to customer service. I am pleased that New York is able to assist the manufacturer grow its global headquarters in the region.”

The transition from TRIMLINE Medical Products Corporation to Welch Allyn is expected to begin immediately and be completed by the end of the year. TRIMLINE’s 152 employees will be retained during the transition period, as product manufacturing is absorbed into Welch Allyn’s own manufacturing sites in Skaneateles Falls, NY, and Tijuana, Mexico. Welch Allyn intends to offer comprehensive retention bonuses to those employees who remain through the transition, and all displaced employees will receive a comprehensive severance package and job placement assistance.

“Welch Allyn intends to continue its tradition as a leader in high quality, reliable blood pressure devices,” added Shimer. “This acquisition will allow us to offer a more extensive line of products in both the U.S. and international markets. Through the continued assistance and encouragement of New York State and Empire State Development, Welch Allyn continues to grow its business at its global headquarters in Central New York. It is a boon to Welch Allyn, its customers, distributors, and, of course, the frontline caregivers and patients who rely on our products to advance health care around the world.”
