Tift Regional Medical Center Notes Improvements to Patient and Physician Satisfaction with NEC

UNIVERGE communications solution reduces back office, manual processes from two days to two minutes

IRVING, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Tift Regional Medical Center (TRMC), a not-for-profit, regional hospital serving 12 counties in South Central Georgia, is using NEC’s UNIVERGE® SV8000 Series Communications Servers, mobility and contact center solutions to improve patient and interdepartmental communications.

NEC Corporation of America (NEC), a leading provider and integrator of advanced communication, IT and biometric solutions, and NEC authorized dealer Black Box Network Services led the implementation of TRMC’s new solution to integrate voice and data infrastructure. The upgrades help manage communications on the main campus and reporting in 15 remote locations while saving money and reducing wasted staff and patient time.

“We’ve relied on NEC technology since 1984, so when it came time to reconfigure and upgrade our communications infrastructure, we knew who to turn to for a fully integrated solution that would be easy to install and administer,” said Wade Brewer, Director of Technology Services for TRMC. “The upgrade gives us a solid foundation to enhance patient services and create additional revenue-generation opportunities.”

TRMC’s previous technology lacked centralized reporting capability, requiring manual processes for tracking data such as calls handled, abandonment rates and wait times. NEC’s UNIVERGE solution eliminates paperwork and staff can access reports on demand, including visibility into contact center and centralized scheduling operations.

“Maximizing healthcare staff time is key, whether reducing time spent on reports or communication. NEC’s UNIVERGE mobility and contact center solutions are giving TRMC staff back more of the time they normally spent on administrative tasks so that more energy can be focused on the patient care process,” said Larry Levenberg, Vice President of Channel Sales and Marketing, Communications Technologies, NEC Corporation of America. “Additionally, TRMC was able to seamlessly migrate to the UNIVERGE SV8500 platform at the main hospital and remotely manage communications at clinic locations without wholesale hardware replacement or large outsourcing contracts.”

The new communications solution also helps TRMC to improve communication throughout its 16 building facility. Physician practice management applications centralize call center functions and streamline back-office processes, such as billing and insurance coordination, to decrease caller complaints and wait times. Patient calls are no longer transferred around the medical center and physicians now have a centralized point of contact. The registration department also alleviated bottlenecks and reduced call volume in the precertification process by sourcing information prior to the patient coming to the office.

“Patients are happier, back office processes take less time and the return on investment has been unbelievable,” said Brewer. “I can’t even estimate what we’ve saved over the past 12 years with NEC solutions.”
