Sylvia Young Appointed President of HCA’s Continental Division

NASHVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- HCA (NYSE: HCA) today announced the appointment of Sylvia Young as President of HCA’s Continental Division, effective June 1.

The Continental Division comprises seven Denver-area hospitals in the HealthONE system and Wesley Medical Center and Galichia Heart Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. It also includes 15 surgery centers and dozens of other outpatient centers in Colorado and Wichita.

Young, 50, replaces Jeff Dorsey, who announced his retirement last month. A 27-year veteran of hospital administration, Young currently serves as President of HCA’s Sunrise Health System, which includes Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center and Sunrise Children’s Hospital, MountainView Hospital and Southern Hills Hospital in addition to four ambulatory surgery centers in Las Vegas. A search for her replacement is underway.

This appointment marks a return to Denver for Young, who served in various hospital leadership roles there from 1985 to 2007.

“Sylvia is a seasoned hospital executive and 24-year veteran of HCA with significant experience in multi-hospital operations,” said Jon M. Foster, President of HCA’s Southwest Group. “She brings outstanding leadership credentials to HealthONE and HCA’s Continental Division, and we are pleased to welcome her back to Denver.”

“While we are sad to see Jeff retire, he has built a great legacy here, and we are confident Sylvia will be a terrific leader to continue our success,” said John McWilliams, Chairman of the HealthONE Board of Trustees. “Sylvia’s commitment to providing high quality patient care is also our top priority at HealthONE.”

From 1998 until her appointment to her current position in 2007, Young served as Chief Executive Officer of The Medical Center of Aurora and Centennial Medical Plaza, a three-campus hospital that included a Level II trauma center, two emergency departments, four outpatient imaging centers and 20 operating suites. From 1995 to 1998, Young served as COO of HealthONE’s The Medical Center of Aurora, a two-campus hospital. Young began her career in hospital administration in 1985.

Young has a master’s degree in health administration from the University of Alabama, Birmingham and a bachelor’s degree in public administration from Samford University in Birmingham.
