Stratos and Proteus Digital Health Will Present on the Consumerization of Healthcare at UBM Canon's BIOMEDevice Conference in San Jose

SANTA MONICA, California, October 30, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --

UBM Canon and Stratos Product Development, LLC today announced that Stratos President, Sean MacLeod, will lead a general session presentation about the "Consumerization of Healthcare" at the BIOMEDevice conference in San Jose on December 4, 2012. MacLeod will present with Todd Thompson, VP of Corporate Development at Proteus Digital Health, Inc, a Stratos client.

The BIOMEDevice event returns to San Jose, CA featuring a new conference program and software development workshop. BIOMEDevice San Jose Conference is set to take place December 4-5, 2012. It will feature targeted networking and educational sessions led by top medtech innovators and medical device OEMs to inspire next-generation medical devices and offer practical solutions through each stage of the design and development process. A new program will offer more in-depth analysis of industry trends, new technologies, regulatory updates and resources for medtech growth. BIOMEDevice is produced in association with MD&M and MD+DI.

Consumerization of Healthcare

The consumerization of healthcare is an emerging mega trend for medical device developers. Stratos' work with Redwood, Calif.-based Proteus Digital Health is an example of the growing healthcare/technology convergence: think consumer product meets wireless software meets medical device. The wearable, wireless technology market is expected to generate a minimum of $6 billion by 2016.

Stratos President, Sean MacLeod, is a known thought leader for innovative product development practices. "Future best-in-class healthcare will include much more than the traditional in-person interaction with one's physician in a clinical setting," MacLeod wrote in an article for MDDI magazine. "As this shift progresses and the convergence of traditional medical and consumer technology accelerates, new, transformational ways of delivering care will emerge."

MacLeod will interview Proteus' Todd Thompson, who will share insights about Proteus' unique, consumer-focused digital health feedback system that includes wearable and ingestible products that will eventually fall into three categories: Digital Medicines, Caregiver Solutions and Lifestyle Tools. The ingestible sensor, today integrated into an inert pill and in the future in other ingested products such as pharmaceuticals, works together with the wearable sensor, a patch worn on the customer's skin. Drawing from metrics such as medication adherence, heart rate, body position and activity, the system provides an unprecedented view into an individual's personal health choices and physiologic response, allowing patients to better manage their health and more effectively collaborate with caregivers and clinicians, while enabling new information-based business models.

MacLeod and Thompson will present at the BIOMEDevice Conference in San Jose, California on December 4, 2012 at 9:40 a.m. at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center.
