Stanford Hospital & Clinics and Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Reach Contract Agreement with SEIU United Healthcare Wo

Union Represents 1,404 Employees at Hospitals

STANFORD, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Stanford Hospital & Clinics and Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital have reached a new three-year contract agreement with employees represented by the SEIU United Healthcare Workers West (SEIU-UHW) union. The SEIU-UHW membership, which represents 1,404 out of 10,489 employees at the hospitals in jobs such as housekeeping, food service, nursing assistants, and technicians, ratified the contract in a vote Wednesday, August 31.

"We are incredibly pleased to have reached an agreement for a three-year contract with SEIU-UHW,” said Dale Spartz, Vice President of Human Resources at Stanford Hospital & Clinics, and Greg Souza, Vice President of Human Resources at Packard Children’s in a joint statement. “This contract preserves the hospitals’ ability to maintain high quality patient care and provides employees with competitive wages and benefits. The new contract balances our responsibility to our patients, our employees and our community.”

The new agreement calls for increases in wages and benefits. Highlights include:

  • 7.5% wage increase over the length of the contact. (1st Year - 3%: 2% at ratification and 1% at 6 months from ratification; 2nd Year - 2%; 3rd Year - 2.5%)
  • Retirement: Increase the matching rate for employees with 10 years of pension eligible service from 4 to 5%
  • Increased the number of employees eligible to receive the Kaiser HMO plan (or its replacement HMO plan) at no cost.
