Faced with a seriously damaged distribution system, some pharmaceutical companies are taking matters into their own hands to get urgently needed drugs through to hospitals across the south and southeast. Abbott managers diverted the company plane on Wednesday to deliver supplies of Similac, Pedialite and Ensure to the Houston Astrodome. Eli Lilly talked an executive at another company into lending his corporate jet to make a run with thousands of vials of insulin and tetanus vaccine.
