SPOTLIGHT: Katrina volunteer scores nursing grant

A cardiology nurse at St. Luke's Episcopal Health System in Houston will have her name on an annual $2,000 employee scholarship, thanks to her efforts in tending to Hurricane Katrina evacuees two years ago. Cynthia Hickman's volunteer work earned St. Luke's a $50,000 grant from Johnson & Johnson to aid community health, and the health system is putting $40,000 of that to set up an endowment for the scholarship. The remaining sum is going toward a series of $1,000 scholarships through the National Black Nurses Association. Article
