Shannon Health Latest to Choose the Rothman Index as its Patient Monitoring System

SAN ANGELO, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Shannon Health has selected the Rothman Index as its patient surveillance system in its ongoing effort to improve quality of care and patient safety while reducing costs.

Shannon Medical Center will be leveraging the data that already exists within its electronic health record by integrating the Rothman Index in McKesson Paragon. “We anticipate the addition of the Rothman Index will allow us to take monitoring of the patient’s condition to a level available in few hospitals in our country,” said Wilma Powell Stuart, RN, PhD, Chief Nursing Officer. “The nursing team at Shannon Medical Center is very excited to have the opportunity to implement such an important tool to enhance the care of our patients.”

Rothman Healthcare developed the Rothman Index in 2005 in order to improve patient outcomes and streamline the continuity of care while reducing costs from patient flow, re-admissions, staffing and general operations. The Rothman Index captures data buried in a hospital’s electronic health record to display the progression of a patient’s health over time. The Rothman Index generates a regularly updated health score synthesizing routine vital signs, nursing assessments, and lab results, for display in a user-friendly graphical format, summarizing thousands of pages of patient data at a glance. The Rothman Index makes it easier to track patient progress and detect subtle declines in health visually. Rapid Response Teams, physicians and nurses now have the ability to see multiple patient graphs simultaneously for earlier interventions and a summarized understanding of a whole unit, providing patients the extraordinary care they need as effectively and as soon as possible.

Named the top trauma center in Texas for 2011, and featured as one of the 2011 HomeCare Elite, Shannon Medical Center has proven its ability to provide quality service across the healthcare continuum. “We are pleased to add Shannon Medical Center to our list of partners with its 75 years of exceptional care to the San Angelo area,” said Michael Rothman, Chief Executive Officer of Rothman Healthcare. “We have seen a tremendous amount of market momentum with prestigious hospital systems in Texas, Florida, Illinois and Connecticut all having chosen to implement the Rothman Index in 2011.”
