Scott & White College Station hospital opens

COLLEGE STATION, Texas, Aug. 19, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Scott & White Hospital-College Station today began its first day of operations at the five-story, 143-bed capacity acute care facility. College Station's newest hospital, located at the intersection of Texas Hwy 6 and Rock Prairie Road, signifies Scott & White Healthcare's commitment to provide area residents high quality, accessible patient care.

Improving the patient care experience continues to be a priority for Scott & White Healthcare, and with the help of a new electronic medical system, Epic, patients in the Brazos Valley can benefit from improved access to care, no matter which Scott & White location they visit.  Epic also features a new patient portal, which will allow area patients to go online, schedule and manage appointments, get lab results and order refills on prescriptions.  The hospital in College Station became the second hospital in the Scott & White system to launch the Epic system, and joins a group of national health systems known for their leadership in the coordinated, integrated delivery of patient care.

The hospital celebrated a number of firsts today that include: 

  • 1st surgery/procedure – hip replacement at 7:30 a.m.
  • 1st pediatric surgery – 7:16 a.m.
  • 1st baby – 8 lbs 10 oz boy delivered at 9:09 a.m.
  • 1st patient arrival – 5:16 a.m.
  • 1st emergency room visit – 7:45 a.m.

The Scott & White Hospital-College Station houses an emergency department, comprehensive cardiac services including cardiac catheterization labs, neonatal intensive care unit and many other specialty services.  Clinic services include a neuroscience center, cancer center, women and children's services, orthopedic care, as well as other specialties, all supported by state-of-the-art imaging technology and other diagnostic capabilities.
