LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Global leaders from government and the medical and business communities will converge in Pasadena next week for the World Stem Cell Summit. This annual meeting provides a unique opportunity for diverse thinkers to learn about recent findings and discuss challenges in advancing the mission of regenerative medical research. Children’s Hospital Los Angeles is co-sponsoring the summit with the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California and other leading institutions.

The Saban Research Institute at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles focuses on seven pediatric research fields including Developmental Biology and Regenerative Medicine. This program focuses on stem cells, organogenesis, injury repair, tissue regeneration and tissue engineering. Patients suffering from a myriad of diseases can potentially benefit from the new regenerative therapies and advances in stem cell research that offer promising treatments for the future.
Investigators from The Saban Research Institute will be lecturing and leading discussions about recent developments and challenges in regenerative medicine; some of these speakers will include: Tracy Grikscheit, MD, on successfully growing tissue-engineered small intestine; Laura Perin, PhD, and Roger DeFilippo, MD, on repairing kidneys using amniotic fluid-derived stem cells; and David Warburton, DSc, MD, on stem cells and lung disease.
