Rx RemoteSolutions: Helping Hospitals in 30+ States Reduce Medication Errors and Increase Patient Safety

MEMPHIS, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- States with hospitals challenged by size, location and a national shortage of pharmacists are increasingly looking to outside sources for help to maintain continuity of service in their pharmacy operations. Memphis-based Comprehensive Pharmacy Services (CPS) offers a remedy in Rx RemoteSolutions: a division that provides pharmacy services anytime to hospitals and health care facilities. The company recently added Mississippi to its list of more than 30 states in the US in which it is providing remote prescription services.

“This offering is for any hospital or facility that doesn’t have a pharmacy operation that’s 24-7,” said CPS CEO Don Nickleson. “This is especially good for rural hospitals, and even in larger communities there are small hospitals that don’t have 24 hour pharmacy operation. It also works for larger systems that might want backup pharmacy support,” said Nickleson.

Medical errors are one of the biggest problems most hospitals face. RemoteSolutions was designed to help cut down on medical errors that can occur when a pharmacist is not available and to improve the quality of life for physicians and nurses within the hospital. “Our proprietary software interfaces with all of our clients’ internal systems, so even though our pharmacists are in our call center, it’s just like they are on site at the hospital. The physician writes the script, it gets scanned and transmitted to us. Our pharmacists review it along with the patient profiles to ensure against allergies and drug conflicts. Once screened, they approve it which releases the drug to an automated cabinet within the hospital for the nurse to retrieve for that patient only,” explained Nickleson.
