Rush operates one of the nation's top-ranked nursing colleges and, for the fifth consecutive year, it ranked among the top five academic medical centers, according to the University HealthSystem Consortium--which represents roughly 90 percent of the nation's non-profit academic medical centers. Rush received a perfect score for "equity of care."

The Chicago-based hospital also was named one of the nation's top hospitals for quality, safety and efficiency by Leapfrog Group. In addition, 43 Rush specialists appeared in Chicago Magazine's list of the area's best doctors in January 2010.

The hospital is currently making progress on a $1 billion campus transformation program, according to its 2009 annual report. The project includes a 14-story inpatient care facility and advanced emergency response center to open in 2012. In April 2010, Rush Transformation's Orthopedic Building earned Gold Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification for its sustainable policies.
