Rite Aid Stores Raise Nearly $750,000 in First Week of Fundraising for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals

Seven-Week Campaign to Benefit 117 Children’s Hospitals

SALT LAKE CITY--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Rite Aid raised $749,141 during the first week of its 17th annual paper Miracle Balloon campaign for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals®, a charity that raises funds for children’s hospitals across North America.

Rite Aid is raising the funds for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals by asking customers to donate by “purchasing” the charity’s paper Miracle Balloon icon for $1 each. Rite Aid customers who purchase a Miracle Balloon receive $8 worth of coupons for products sold at Rite Aid. The campaign began April 10 and will run through May 28. Rite Aid hopes to raise $5 million during the seven-week campaign, bringing its grand total of funds raised for the organization to more than $50 million, becoming only the sixth Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals sponsor to hit this significant milestone.

“Rite Aid has been one of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals’ biggest supporters for nearly two decades,” said John Lauck, president and CEO, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. “They are on track to reach $50 million total raised this year and it’s because of their commitment to helping kids in the communities they serve.”

All donations to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals stay in the community where the donation was made. Rite Aid’s campaign benefits 117 children’s hospitals nationwide in the communities served by Rite Aid stores. Benefiting hospitals often use Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals funds to purchase life-saving equipment, invest in research of training, or cover medical costs for uninsured or underinsured pediatric patients.

Rite Aid has been a national sponsor of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals since 1994. In 2010, Rite Aid raised $4.9 million for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, bringing its total amount raised to $46 million.
