REACH Health Launches REACH Tele-ICU

REACH’s comprehensive solutions leverage clinical personnel, clinical applications, and telemedicine technology to help healthcare providers deliver time-critical care to their patients

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- REACH Health, Inc., a leading provider of comprehensive telemedicine solutions, today announced that it has launched REACH Tele-ICU, a clinical tele-presence application for critical care.

REACH Tele-ICU addresses the shortage of critical care physicians by bringing pulmonologists and intensivists into critical care units to provide real-time ICU consultations. Physician and clinicians operate in a virtual, collaborative care environment that enables them to improve the care they provide to patients.

The Tele-ICU application is uniquely designed to manage the complexities associated with critical care without the high costs associated with other ICU solutions. REACH Tele-ICU utilizes a standard PC (laptop, desktop or mobile) and leverages the structure of the Internet, thereby eliminating the need for a dedicated communications infrastructure and minimizing hardware costs and the IT resources needed for implementation.

“Before REACH Tele-ICU, upfront capital and ongoing operating costs were too high for most hospitals to consider using this technology. Our application is designed to enable hospitals with as few as four ICU beds to cost-justify this solution. In most cases we can show a one- to two-month payback just from the ED patients lost through transfers to higher level tertiary-care facilities,” said Ken Rardin, REACH President and CEO.

REACH Tele-ICU places all relevant patient information including multi-modality diagnostic images and decision support tools into one integrated application. Physicians and clinicians do not have to jump between screens and other information systems during a time-critical consultation. The application also uses a SOAP (subjective, objective, assessment and plan) note format to simulate the physician’s approach to assessing the patient.

“REACH Health takes a collaborative approach to clinical documentation,” said Cory Hall, EVP of Medical Informatics for REACH. “Each stakeholder can view and actively participate in the documentation process simultaneously. Updates are immediately available to all consult participants resulting in better care for the patient and a more efficient process for physicians and clinicians.”
