The Shack observes World Cancer Day by supporting the global fight against cancer
FORT WORTH, Texas, Feb. 4, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The global fight against cancer and the 28 million people around the world living with the disease received a large boost of support over the last year, thanks in part to RadioShack's $4.6 million fundraising contributions to LIVESTRONG®, an organization that serves people affected by cancer and empowers them to take action. The Shack®, which celebrated its first full year as an official partner of LIVESTRONG, helped raise the funds through a combination of customer point-of-sale donations, licensed-product sales and company contributions. The Shack® has donated a total of nearly $6 million to LIVESTRONG programs and support services to date.
In addition to its fundraising efforts, RadioShack has given people around the country the chance to contribute to LIVESTRONG by driving awareness and participation for the non-profit's signature fundraising events, the LIVESTRONG Challenge Series. Local associates, supporters and family members joined Team RadioShack in Seattle, Philadelphia and Austin to walk, run or cycle, generating thousands of dollars for LIVESTRONG.
