QuadraMed and Elsevier Partner to Offer Health Systems New Tools to Ease ICD-10 Transition

Strategic Alliance Marries QuadraMed’s Advanced Training Tools with Elsevier’s In-depth Educational Courses

RESTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- QuadraMed® Corporation, a leading provider of healthcare technologies and services that help turn quality care into positive financial outcomes, today announced a strategic alliance with Elsevier, the leading global publisher of scientific, technical, and medical information products and services. By combining Elsevier / MC Strategies in-depth ICD-10 e-learning suite with QuadraMed’s ICD-10 Countdown Program, health systems and hospitals nationwide will be able to better prepare for the ICD-10 2013 transition deadline, minimizing disruptions to workflow and billing.

According to a recent J.A. Thomas & Associates survey, only 50 percent of respondents have invested in staff training for ICD-10. However, more than 70 percent said investing in education and training will provide the most benefits in preparing for the transition. The joint offering from QuadraMed and Elsevier addresses provider needs by expanding QuadraMed’s ICD-10 Countdown Program to include access to Elsevier’s educational learning courses, which are available on-line for client convenience.

“We are committed to helping the healthcare industry prepare for the ICD-10 transition and will continue to identify opportunities to strengthen the training and education we provide,” said Duncan W. James, QuadraMed CEO. “Elsevier’s online educational suite will add great value to our comprehensive offering.”

The robust e-learning suite, which will be offered through QuadraMed’s ICD-10 Countdown Program, offers numerous ICD-10 topics and tracts, including the following:

  • ICD-10 Readiness Assessment Tool
  • EduCode Coding Curriculum
  • EduCode ICD-10 Essentials
  • Mosby’s Medical Terminology Curriculum
  • EduCode Documentation Improvement Curriculum
  • Mosby’s Human Body Essentials (A&P and Pathology)

“The migration to ICD-10-CM/PCS will be challenging for the healthcare industry, but will ultimately enable hospitals and health systems to be more accurate and detailed in their reporting,” said Chris Dillon, Managing Director, Clinical Decision Support, Elsevier Health Sciences. “This partnership will give healthcare professionals access to comprehensive educational and training materials that are key for a smooth transition.”

QuadraMed rolled out one of the industry’s first comprehensive ICD-10 preparation programs in 2009, which currently provides health systems with software, education, guidance and training tools specific to the ICD-10 transition. Unlike other software providers that offer basic conversion tools to map ICD-9 to ICD-10, QuadraMed’s ICD-10 Coding Simulator, which is part of the program, uses the full set of ICD-10 codes so that healthcare organizations can better prepare for the transition. By combining Elsevier’s e-learning courses with QuadraMed’s ICD-10 countdown program, users will be able to practice coding scenarios in a simulated coding environment while reviewing leading educational materials, resulting in a powerful training and learning program.
