Prematics and Capital BlueCross Sign Three-Year Agreement for Electronic Prescribing Services

MCLEAN, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Prematics, Inc., and Capital BlueCross announced today that they have signed a three-year renewal agreement for Prematics’ electronic prescribing services. Capital BlueCross has deployed Prematics’ service successfully with over 1,000 practitioners who provide care to nearly one million people in Pennsylvania. Each practitioner is provided with wireless infrastructure and simple-to-use handheld mobile devices that perform basic e-prescribing functions and connect physicians with clinical information on their patients.

“Using Prematics’ electronic prescribing service offers a substantial economic and convenience benefit for our providers,” said William Lehr, Jr., president and Chief Executive Officer, Capital BlueCross. “Prematics’ service increases prescribing safety and improves formulary compliance. Prematics has been with Capital BlueCross since their inception, helping us provide a positive experience for our practitioners, connecting us with doctors inside the exam room, and creating an ideal place to enhance the physician-patient dialog.”

“Over the next three years, Prematics can easily expand to provide valuable additional services, such as care communication messages between the health plan, doctors, and patients,” said Lehr.

“Capital BlueCross has always been a pioneer among health plans for implementing advanced tools for care management and care coordination,” said Kevin Hutchinson, president, and Chief Executive Officer, Prematics, Inc. “In today’s rapidly changing world of health care reform, Capital BlueCross is leading the way among health plans and providers to coordinate and improve the quality and cost-effectiveness of care.”

Health Plans Build Strong Relationships with Care Communication™ Service

For health plans to realize their full potential as care managers, they need to build and maintain strong relationships with high-prescribing physicians. More than 80 percent of prescriptions in the U.S. are written by 30 percent of physicians, mainly primary care doctors in solo practice or small groups.

Prematics focuses on reaching these small to mid-sized practices, advancing a low-cost, easy-to-deploy, mobile solution. Built on Prematics’ highly intuitive electronic prescribing service and using the same mobile device to deliver additional vital care messages, Prematics Care Communication™ integrates seamlessly with the doctor’s workflow. Doctors receive proactive, integrated real-time messages to support medication management, gaps in care closure, and timely care coordination.

By connecting to physicians and patients in the exam rooms of smaller practice groups, Prematics Care Communication service is a natural vehicle for health plans to get more value from their own IT investments, while having a positive impact on the quality and cost of patient care.
