Pong™ Research Corporation Introduces New Cell Phone and iPad Cases to Protect Against Potentially-Harmful Wireless Device Radia

Proven effective in FCC-certified labs, Pong cases significantly reduce the amount of wireless radiation absorbed into the head and body when using a cell phone or iPad

LEESBURG, Va., Nov. 17, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Cell phone radiation has become one of the hottest consumer health topics since May of this year when the World Health Organization (WHO) classified cell phone radiation as "possibly carcinogenic to humans." The WHO based its findings on a large, international study coordinated by the International Agency for Research on Cancer that showed an increased risk of a certain type of brain tumor called glioma from regular use of cell phones – defined in the study as 1,640 hours or more of cumulative use. In consumer terms, that equates to slightly less than a half hour of daily use over a 10-year period.

Adding to the evidence is a separate 2011 study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), which found that 50 minutes of cell phone use affected brain activity in the area nearest to the phone.

Of concern to scientists and medical experts is something called SAR, which stands for Specific Absorption Rate and measures the rate at which cellular radiation energy is absorbed by the head and body of the user.

Concerns about wireless radiation have led the FCC to impose strict SAR limits on cell phones and tablets and mandate that Apple, Blackberry and other cellular device makers warn consumers not to put their cell phone directly against their head or body when using it. Unbeknownst to most consumers, these warnings can be found in all cellular device manuals.

Suggestions on how to limit exposure to cell phone radiation, such as texting, using the speaker, or turning the cell phone off when not in use, are not always possible or practical.

In addition, the FCC warns against the use of products that claim to shield or block cell phone radiation because they can actually increase the user's radiation exposure. Making matters worse, shields can also negatively impact a device's performance.

Barring giving up one's cell phone or iPad 3G entirely, a consistent and workable solution for consumers has not been available until now.

Pong Research Corporation is a new and fast-growing company that makes high-quality, sleek-looking cell phone and iPad cases that have been scientifically proven to protect consumers from wireless device radiation without negatively impacting a device's performance.

Tested and proven in FCC-certified labs, Pong's iPhone, BlackBerry, Android and iPad cases reduce SAR to a point that is up to 95% below the limit set by the FCC.

What makes Pong cases work is a patented antenna technology embedded in each case that redirects and redistributes the cell phone radiation that would otherwise be absorbed by the user's head and body.

Proprietary to Pong, the technology was invented by a team of experts out of Princeton, Harvard, UCLA and MIT with backgrounds in plasma physics, nuclear and radiation science, cell biology, behavioral neuroscience and electronics engineering.

One of those experts is Dr. Rong Wang who holds a Ph.D. from the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences & Technology and serves as Pong's Chief Science Officer.

"Pong is the only solution on the market proven to protect consumers effectively from the potentially harmful effects of wireless device radiation," says Dr. Wang. "Redirecting and redistributing radiation – as opposed to blocking or shielding it – is the key to our patented technology and the best way to protect wireless device users effectively."

According to Dr. Wang, cases that attempt to shield or block radiation – even some standard cases – can increase one's exposure to radiation in a domino effect: they block the device's signal, which makes the device work harder to communicate properly, which, in turn, increases its SAR level and the radiation exposure to the user.

Pong's redirecting and redistributing technology has the ancillary benefit of optimizing the performance of cellular devices.

"Many Pong users have told us that their cell phones work better once they switch out whatever case they had been using for a Pong case," says Dr. Wang. "This doesn't surprise us given that our technology protects the signal instead of trying to block it."

Pong's cell phone and iPad cases couldn't come at a better time. According to the latest Pew Research Center's Internet & American Life Project, 83% of American adults own some kind of cell phone and the Kaiser Family Foundation reports that 31% of 8-10 year olds own a cell phone, 69% of 11-14 year olds, and 85% of 15-18 year olds. In addition, Apple has already sold more than 11 million iPads and Gartner, one of the world's leading technology research firms, predicts that the iPad will continue to dominate tablet sales through this holiday season.

Just in time for the holidays, Pong has launched a new collection of cases for the iPhone 4/4S, BlackBerry Bold 9900/9930, iPad and iPad 2. The nifty iPad 2 cover, which has a sleep/wake function, features a patent-pending design that allows users to stand the device vertically or horizontally in positions that are optimal for movie and TV watching, reading and typing.

Available in a variety of colors, Pong cases are as easy to put on and take off as any high-quality cell phone or iPad case, and have been designed and tested to work anywhere in the world.

Pong cases are available at www.pongresearch.com and range in price from $49.99 to $99.99.
