Optimum Lightpath Award Recognizes Customer Innovation

Montefiore Medical Center Named Customer Innovator of the Year for Breakthrough Use of Optimum Lightpath Services to Improve Patient Care at Second Annual Awards Event

JERICHO, N.Y., May 6, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Optimum Lightpath®, a market leader in Ethernet-based communication solutions for New York metropolitan area businesses, today announced that Montefiore Medical Center has received the 2011 Optimum Lightpath Customer Innovator of the Year Award. The leading medical center was honored this week at a breakfast for finalists, which was keynoted by famed computer hacker Kevin Mitnick. Montefiore Medical Center was recognized for its unique use of Optimum Lightpath's services to introduce real-time diagnosis for patients, support a sophisticated electronic medical records system, connect to schools and offer the Interactive Patient Care application.

"Optimum Lightpath has an extensive history of product and service innovation and continues to be impressed by the many ways our customers have used our services to capture new opportunities, overcome unique challenges and transform the way they work," said Dave Pistacchio, President, Optimum Lightpath. "Now in its second year, our Customer Innovator Awards give us an opportunity to recognize the unique, industry leading work being accomplished by our customers every day. We congratulate Montefiore Medical Center for the tremendous work it has done to leverage our services to help power breakthrough patient care."

Optimum Lightpath judged award finalists based on how they use the company's products and services strategically to streamline business processes and enhance the overall customer experience. Montefiore Medical Center operates 75 locations throughout the Bronx, Westchester and Manhattan. It has used Optimum Lightpath's services to heavily reduce the hospital's voice and data costs, more quickly diagnose patients, build a more efficient health system where patient records are updated electronically and available from any location, deliver top-rate care to area schools and transform patient care for children with Interactive Patient Care.

The Children's Hospital at Montefiore was the first New York metro area hospital to deploy Interactive Patient Care, an application that Optimum Lightpath developed with partner GetWellNetwork, changing how it administers care. Interactive Patient Care empowers hospitals to improve entertainment, education, patient safety, clinical care outcomes, and bed turnover rates while creating new workflow efficiencies for hospital staff by transforming hospital in-room televisions into valuable tools for clinical teaching and entertainment.

"Our relationship with Optimum Lightpath spans more than a decade and has seen us introduce a host of changes and enhancements that result in saved lives and an overall better experience for our patients, doctors and staff," said Jack Wolf, Vice President and Chief Information Officer, Montefiore Medical Center. "To be able to work in true partnership with Optimum Lightpath and be supported by a network that can meet our most stringent demands affords us the opportunity to make significant strides in patient care for the communities we serve."

"Through our extensive work together, Montefiore Medical Center's passion and willingness to take risks, push the envelope and innovate have shone through time and again," said Pistacchio. "We are proud to name Montefiore Medical Center the Optimum Lightpath 2011 Customer Innovator of the Year and look forward to continuing to support all of our customers as they continue to evolve the way they work."
