OIG: Florida owes $12.2M in Medicaid overpayments

Florida has failed to repay millions in collected and uncollected Medicaid overpayments to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, according to a report from the Office of Inspector General. Of the $22.3 million in Medicaid overpayments from July 1, 2007, through June 30, 2010, the federal government's share of Florida expenditures totaled more than $12 million and has yet to be refunded.

The OIG advised the state to repay the government $1.4 million in Medicaid overpayments collected, but work with CMS to determine whether it must repay the $10.8 million federal share of overpayments identified but not collected. Report
