NHS health IT project draws critics

The BBC reports that most British doctors disapprove of the NHS' attempts to implement Choose and Book, an online booking service that is intended to be a centerpiece of the UK's health IT infrastructure project. Only one in five British doctors surveyed by the BBC say they use the system and about fifty percent rate it as "poor or fairly poor." The majority say they would like to see an "independent review of the entire scheme by technical experts to check its basic viability." The negative response comes on the heels of a story in yesterday's Financial Times that reported that the organizers are likely to miss their goal of providing every GP in the country with an electronic medical record by as much as two years.
