New Parkland Hospital Selects Medical Technology Consulting Firm for One of the Largest Hospital Construction Projects in

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Gene Burton & Associates, the largest independent medical technology consulting firm in the country, has been selected to provide medical equipment planning services for the new Parkland Hospital, a $1.27 billion replacement hospital campus in Dallas.

The new hospital will replace the existing Parkland Memorial Hospital, a 54-year-old acute-care facility that handles more than one million visits a year. The new campus is among the largest health system construction projects in the country. It will include an 862-bed acute-care hospital, a 380,000 square-foot outpatient center, a 275,000 square-foot office center, parking, plant, and other support facilities. Design is underway and construction is scheduled to begin later this year; project completion is slated for 2014.

GBA will provide comprehensive equipment planning and procurement services through completion of the project. The firm’s consultants are currently working with the hospital’s design and construction team to provide medical equipment installation specifications and develop cost estimates.

“The new Parkland Hospital is the hospital of the future – one that will help set the standard for patient-focused medical technology applications for years to come,” said Suzan Logan, GBA president and CEO. “We are honored to be part of the project team of planners, architects, construction managers and healthcare consultants working together to create this impressive new hospital.”

About Medical Equipment Planning and GBA

Healthcare has become increasingly information intensive, and medical equipment is the primary source for medical information in today’s healthcare facility. From digital imaging to remote ICU monitoring to robotic pharmacy, the variety of information sources, formats, users, access locations and viewing modalities are progressively more varied. Medical equipment planning involves the comprehensive assessment of care and treatment processes, the medical technologies that support those processes, information the technologies produce, and the infrastructure necessary for capturing, storing and accessing the information.

Gene Burton & Associates created the field of medical technology consulting for healthcare construction projects. Founded in 1988, the firm has provided medical equipment planning, medical communications/IT planning and project management services for more than 1,000 projects across the country. A certified Women’s Business Enterprise, GBA is headquartered in Franklin, Tenn., with offices in Dallas; Las Vegas; Monroe, La.; Phoenix; San Francisco; Hesperia, Calif., and Reno.
