New Name, Same Great Care: The Children’s Hospital is Now Children’s Hospital Colorado

Hospital adds geographic locator to distinguish itself clearly on a national level and better reflect regional service area

AURORA, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The Children’s Hospital is changing its name to Children’s Hospital Colorado (Children’s Colorado), effective immediately. Children’s Colorado proudly adds the geographic location of Colorado to distinguish itself clearly on a national level and to better reflect its regional network of care.

“Our new name will help distinguish the hospital and its national reputation from other children’s hospitals across the country,” said Amy Casseri, Children’s Hospital Colorado’s chief strategy officer. “We provide services in Denver and Aurora and across the state and region through our network of care locations, and this new name represents our umbrella of services and our reach in Metro Denver and beyond for over 100 years.”

With 15 network of care locations, including the main campus in Aurora, and over 400 clinics in Colorado and surrounding states, approximately 30 percent of the patients treated at Children’s Colorado come from outside of the Denver metro area; approximately one-third of these come from outside of Colorado and the U.S.

Children’s Colorado was ranked among the nation’s top children’s hospitals in the U.S. News and World Report 2011-2012 edition of Best Children’s Hospitals. In addition to ranking fifth on the Best Children’s Hospital’s 2011-12 Honor Roll, Children’s Colorado once again received international recognition for excellence in nursing from the American Nurses Credentialing Center and joined the ranks of only three percent of U.S. hospitals that have achieved Magnet® redesignation.

The new name also strengthens the hospital’s collaboration with the University of Colorado and its partners in the local community and across the region. This includes Children’s Colorado’s community of parents and community doctors and advocates.

“Building a national reputation, along with preserving the spirit of collaboration we have with our clinical, research and teaching partners on a local level is vital to future growth,” Casseri added. “All of this aligns with our mission of providing the very best pediatric care for children and their families in Denver and beyond.”

The hospital changed the URL of its website to www.childrenscolorado.org as part of the renaming, and signs on the exterior of the hospital have been updated. The well-known “Balloon Boy” will continue to be the hospital’s official logo, and now it will be accompanied by a new name, Children’s Hospital Colorado.

The hospital’s foundation also is updating its name to Children’s Hospital Colorado Foundation.

The hospital is not adopting an acronym to abbreviate its new name. The full name – Children’s Hospital Colorado – is to be used for all first references and Children’s Colorado for second references.
