National Institutes of Health Chooses ScriptPro for Pharmacy Automation

MISSION, Kan., Sept. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- ScriptPro has been awarded a contract to provide pharmacy automation systems to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, MD.

ScriptPro's robotic dispensing, pharmacy management, and drug information systems will be implemented in the National Institutes of Health to assist in the internal control and identification of drugs and enhance the safety and efficiency of medication dispensing and use by patients. The system is specifically directed at take-home medication orders provided to day hospital patients and clinic patients. ScriptPro will provide a closed loop system for filling and dispensing medications that will allow the pharmacy to monitor workload and control operating costs.

Funded directly by Congress, NIH invests over $30 billion annually in medical research to protect the health of Americans and to advance medical science worldwide. NIH awards approximately 50,000 competitive grants to more than 325,000 researchers at over 3,000 universities, medical schools, and other research institutions in every state and around the world.

NIH is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and is made up of 27 components called Institutes and Centers. Each Institute and Center has its own specific research agenda. NIH also conducts research in its own laboratories, supporting the research of non-Federal scientists in universities, medical schools, hospitals, and research institutions throughout the country and abroad.

The addition of NIH to ScriptPro's customer base expands the Company's pharmacy services to U.S. government institutions. ScriptPro now provides pharmacy systems that support critical operations in the Veterans Health Administration, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, all branches of the DoD at home and abroad, U.S. public health services (such as Indian Health Services), and federal prisons.
