Ontario Shores is a public hospital that provides a range of specialized assessment and treatment services to those living with complex and serious mental illness. Dedicated to enhancing patient safety, improving access to care and increasing efficiency, the hospital made the transition to a comprehensive Electronic Health Records (EHR) system using MEDITECH 6.0 in 2010. Ontario Shores immediately realized that in order to reap the full benefits of the EHR implementation, its staff would need a device that would allow them to chart electronically across the entire hospital.

The Ontario Shores team worked closely with Motion value-added reseller, Bell Canada, in order to help them identify the best device for their fast-paced clinical workflows. With the help of Bell Canada’s expertise and mobility resources, the team at Ontario Shores chose the Motion Tablet PCs.

With Motion Tablet PCs in place, Ontario Shores has been able to standardize on an entirely electronic format. By eliminating the need for paper, the hospital has reduced the risk of documentation errors as well as duplication of information, improved communication across interprofessional teams and between shifts, increased data availability for more powerful and accurate reporting and decision making, improved access to information across multiple sites and increased overall clinician satisfaction.

“We at Ontario Shores have made a commitment to innovation in order to provide the highest quality care for our patients, and we’ve seen firsthand how point of care documentation via the tablet PCs helps us deliver on that promise,” said Karim Mamdani, Chief Operating Officer, Ontario Shores. “The tablet PCs are light, accessible and mobile, eliminating the need for desktops and laptops and saving on space and time.”

“Ontario Shores’ story stood out among this year’s nominations because it is the perfect example of a hospital delivering on its promise to deploy mobility solutions to provide the best patient care possible,” said Scott Ball, Canada Business Development Executive, Motion. “The tablets create a domino effect of benefits since the users gain mobility, accuracy and productivity, which translate to improved efficiency and quality of patient care.”
