Medtronic Launches New, Enhanced Midas Rex e-Institute® Website for Residents, Surgeons, and Healthcare Staff

New Site Offers Unrestricted Access to Interactive Learning

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Medtronic, Inc. (NYSE: MDT) today announced the launch of its new Midas Rex e-Institute® website (www.e-institute.com), an enhanced web portal for healthcare professionals to explore interactive education on surgical anatomy, surgical procedures, and technical instruction. The Midas Rex e-Institute is part of The Midas Rex Institute®, which has trained more than 26,000 healthcare professionals in cranial, spinal, and orthopaedic bone dissection workshops since 1976.

To facilitate learning and sharing of information, the new Midas Rex e-Institute allows open and unrestricted access. Users can easily download images and PDFs without registration. The Midas Rex e-Institute consists of three components:

  • Specialty Colleges: Key surgeons and universities present interactive education on surgical anatomy and surgical procedural lessons from their respective specialties.
  • e-Inservice Products: Users can download instructions for use (IFUs) for all Medtronic Powered Surgical Solutions (Midas Rex) products; take quizzes on proper set-up, sterilization, and care of equipment; and practice their knowledge with an interactive Dissecting Tool and Attachment Selector.
  • Hands-On Workshops: Calendars, course descriptions, and online registration are available for hands-on workshops in powered bone dissection at The Midas Rex Institute in Fort Worth, Texas.

The first phase of the Midas Rex e-Institute focuses on cranial surgery, with spinal and orthopaedic subject areas to follow. World-renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Albert Rhoton, Jr., contributed content and skull base anatomy images for the Specialty College/Cranial section. He has published more than 300 scientific papers and was awarded the 1998 Cushing Medal of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the 2001 Medal of Honor of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies.

“We believe the new Midas Rex e-Institute will be a very useful tool for residents, surgeons, and OR managers,” said Mark Fletcher, president of the Neurologic Technologies and ENT businesses at Medtronic. “We’re excited to offer this new interactive learning site and will continue to expand its curricula in the future.”
