Medica’s Minnesota Medicaid HMO achieved the highest ranking in the state from the prestigious National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). The ranking also places Medica among the top 14 Medicaid HMO plans in the United States.

Along with the ranking, Medica’s Medicaid HMO achieved an Excellent Accreditation status from NCQA. An Excellent Accreditation is the highest status awarded by NCQA

"Medica is honored to be ranked best in the state and very highly in the nation for our Medicaid plan,” said Glenn Andis, Medica senior vice president of government programs. “It demonstrates our ability to work with our members and their physicians to improve the quality of care. It also highlights the partnerships between the health plan, members and providers that are critical to delivering great service and quality care.”

Said NCQA President Margaret O’Kane: “NCQA’s Excellent Accreditation status is reserved for the best health plans in the nation. It is only awarded to those plans that meet or exceed NCQA’s rigorous requirements for consumer protection and quality improvement and deliver excellent clinical care.”

In its assessment report, NCQA gave Medica the highest ratings possible in two key areas: “consumer satisfaction” and “prevention.” The third area scored by NCQA, “treatment” achieved the second highest rating possible.

NCQA reviews are rigorous, done by independent teams of physicians and managed care experts, with a national oversight committee of physicians analyzing the findings and assigning an accreditation level. Medica has been accredited by NCQA since 1994 and has maintained Excellent Accreditation status since 2001.

According to NCQA, its accreditation is important for consumers, physicians and other health care providers, because it evaluates how well a health plan manages quality throughout every part of its delivery system.
