Mayo Clinic Research Magazine Now Available in iPad App

ROCHESTER, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Discovery’s Edge, Mayo Clinic’s research magazine, is now available in a free, downloadable iPad application. The app, based on the current biannual print issue, is enhanced by a range of original additional interactive features.

“The goal of Discovery’s Edge from the start was to make research come alive, and this new app edition really makes that possible,” says Stephen Russell, M.D., Ph.D., medical editor. “I feel our team has done a brilliant job creating the new multimedia aspects for this platform, and it’s important to note that it was all done in-house.”

Those features include video stories and interviews, animations, interactive quizzes and slide shows.

“I can describe it, but you really have to see it,” says Executive Editor Bob Nellis. “The format allows us to try things we can’t easily do in another medium.” Discovery’s Edge is published quarterly online at http://discoverysedge.mayo.edu. The print issue also is available free. The magazine is the first of several Mayo publications that will eventually offer iPad editions, including Mayo Alumni Magazine, Mayo Magazine and Mayo Clinic Cancer Center’s Forefront magazine.
