lifeIMAGE Network Surpasses 100 Million Diagnostic Images

-- Nation's leading hospitals reach unprecedented levels of health information exchange using lifeIMAGE services --

NEWTON, Mass., Feb. 22, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- lifeIMAGE, a network for sharing medical information, achieved a significant milestone this week when it surpassed the one hundred million image mark. In the past year lifeIMAGE has logged exceptional health information exchange statistics on its open network. Today, the company's growing network is accessible to over 31,000 physicians affiliated with some of the most prestigious medical centers in the country, including Stanford, Henry Ford, Children's hospitals of Boston & Philadelphia, Geisinger Health System, and Massachusetts General Hospital.

lifeIMAGE disclosed that:

  • The network volume represents 111,000,000 images to date
  • 504,000 imaging exams have been exchanged on the network
  • 50,000 cases have been electronically transferred among diverse hospitals
  • 64,000 exams have been shared among individual care providers
  • 298,000 exams captured at remote facilities have been received, reviewed, and ingested into the receiving facility's local PACS and EMR

lifeIMAGE is helping leading healthcare organizations in the U.S. be more efficient, improve patient outcomes, in some cases save lives, and expand referral networks by seamlessly transmitting, receiving and cataloguing images from any source.  Conservative estimates indicate lifeIMAGE is saving physicians four minutes compared to the time it takes to access every imaging CD today. That translates to almost two years of time saved across the facilities served by lifeIMAGE, or approximately the amount of time state and regional Health Information Exchange (HIE) organizations take to move beyond the planning process.

"These numbers are powerful evidence of what our customers already know: the lifeIMAGE network is having a real and positive impact on clinicians and patients every minute of every day," said Amy J. Vreeland, co-founder and Senior Vice President of Product Management at lifeIMAGE. "It is really easy for hospitals to start sharing exam data electronically and to realize the value of faster access to outside exams – locally or through the cloud.  You can think of us as a real-time imaging HIE."
