Lehigh Valley Health Network Selects Orion Health for Enterprise Health Information Exchange

Leading Pennsylvania integrated delivery network offers easy, secure access to comprehensive patient data for physicians and clinicians across 50+ affiliated hospitals, clinics and health centers

SANTA MONICA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Orion Health, the leader in health information exchange (HIE) and healthcare integration solutions, today announced that Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) has selected the Company’s HIE solution for easy and secure access and exchange of comprehensive patient data between care providers in three full-service hospitals, nine health centers and more than 40 primary and specialty clinics in the state. LVHN, an integrated delivery network (IDN) consistently recognized for its technology leadership and innovation, will leverage Orion Health HIE, which includes its Clinical Portal, Rhapsody Integration Engine and Clinical Data Repository.

“Orion Health provides us with a flexible, easy-to-use solution that gives providers across our locations a single, comprehensive view of their patients’ medical history, while insuring security and privacy,” said Harry Lukens, chief information officer, Lehigh Valley Health Network. “Most importantly, it enables physicians to have the information they need at the right place and the right time in order to make better healthcare decisions.”

Orion Health HIE aggregates patient data from many sources to enable physicians and clinicians in LVHN’s affiliated facilities to see a consistent view of the patient regardless of the location of the patient or provider. The solution and its capabilities provide LVHN with a solid foundation to further improve the health of the communities it serves. In the future, LVHN plans to institute immunization record sharing across local schools and enhanced population health management, and will use Orion Health’s care management products to share critical data on chronic conditions such as diabetes, heart disease and COPD.

“Communication is critical to the success of just about anything we do,” said Ronald Swinfard, MD, LVHN’s president and CEO. “Properly communicating health information is especially important. Setting up a network between care providers and schools that offers quick access to detailed and accurate information will mean better care and is the right thing to do for children and families in our region.”

“Lehigh makes an ideal partner because of its status as a leader in healthcare and passion for leveraging technology to improve care delivery,” said Paul Viskovich, president, Orion Health North America. “With its plans for sharing patient data throughout the community, Lehigh is well-positioned to unite doctors, clinics, hospitals and other caregivers to boost the quality of care in the region.”

LVHN was recently included as one of Hospital and Health Networks’ 2011 Most Wired Hospitals and named one of America’s Best Hospitals by U.S. News and World Report. It is also nationally certified as a Primary Stroke Center and partners with the University of South Florida in providing innovative medical education programs.
