Kenny Boyd, chief executive officer for the Girard Medical Center, has been named President/CEO of McDonough District Hospital, effective July 25, 2011.
"From an excellent group of candidates, the search committee and Board selected Kenny Boyd to lead MDH in its mission to provide outstanding health care services with a personal approach to the residents of our community," said MDH Board President Donald Dexter. "His experience as a CEO in a comparable size hospital with strong outreach services, his ability to build partnerships and his enthusiasm are among the many qualities he will bring to MDH."
Since 2006 Boyd has been at Girard Medical Center, a 35-bed critical access facility with five outlying clinics and a home health agency located in Girard, Kansas. Boyd's 12 year healthcare career has included leadership positions at Dickenson Community Hospital in Clintwood, Virginia and Norton Community Hospital in Norton, Virginia.
"My family and I are excited to be joining both MDH and the Macomb community and having the opportunity to contribute to the continued successes of each," Boyd said.
Boyd received his master's degree in health services management from Webster University in Jeffersonville, Indiana and his bachelor's degree in political sciences with an emphasis in policy analysis from the University of Louisville in Kentucky.
He and his wife Nakina have one son Gavin and a daughter Karissa.
Boyd was named following a national search to replace President/CEO Stephen Hopper, who served in the role from 1985 until his retirement in January, 2011. Current MDH Vice president for Finance Linda Dace has been serving as interim President/CEO.
The executive recruitment firm of B.E. Smith, based in Lenexa, KS, was retained by the MDH Board and Search Committee to coordinate the search for a new permanent chief executive officer. The search firm met with hospital, medical staff and community representatives to assist the Board search committee in developing the position announcement. There were more than 100 applications for the position. Interviews with final candidates were held the week of May 16-18. Candidates met with hospital staff, medical staff and a panel of community leaders in addition to the search committee.
