Kaiser Permanente Southern California Physicians Take Top Honor for 6th Straight Year

PASADENA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Kaiser Permanente physicians from every Southern California Permanente Medical Group service area location have been named top performers by the non-profit Integrated Healthcare Association for the sixth year in a row. These physicians provide care and treatment to 3.5 million Kaiser Permanente members from Kern to San Diego County.

The Integrated Healthcare Association looked at 221 physician organizations statewide and only 44 are receiving Pay for Performance awards, referred to as “P4P.” These organizations scored in the top 25 percent and are the 2011 “Top Overall Performing Physician Organizations.”

The four measurement areas were clinical quality, patient experience, use of information technology-enabled systems, and coordinated diabetes care.

“These ratings further confirm that our physicians are consistently delivering high quality and innovative health care to our patients,” said Jeffrey Weisz, MD, executive medical director of the Southern California Permanente Medical Group. “Our integrated health care model, chronic disease management programs, electronic medical record system, proactive office encounter, and our member website all support our mission to improve our members’ health and their quality of life.”

The 13 Southern California Permanente Medical Group locations receiving Integrated Healthcare Association recognition are: Antelope Valley, Baldwin Park, Downey, Fontana, Kern County, Los Angeles, Orange County, Panorama City, Riverside, San Diego, South Bay, West Los Angeles, and Woodland Hills.

The Southern California Permanente Medical Group in Kern County is one of only three organizations in the state this year that received both the Most Improved and Top Performer Awards at the 10th Annual “P4P” Stakeholders Meeting on Thursday, September 22 at the LAX Airport Hilton Hotel.

This recognition is just one of several top honors that Kaiser Permanente Southern California has received in 2011. For the third straight year, Kaiser Permanente was the only health plan in California to earn a four-star rating which is the highest possible, for overall quality of care in the Health Care Quality Report Card from the California Office of the Patient Advocate.
