Jon Rawlson Named Vice President of Government Affairs at Aveta Inc.

Former FORTUNE 500 Government Executive Takes On Newly-Created Position

FORT LEE, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Aveta Inc., one of the nation’s largest providers of managed healthcare services, announced today the addition of Jon Rawlson as vice president of government affairs.

Rawlson’s primary responsibility will be managing Aveta’s government relations efforts at both the state and federal levels. In this role, Rawlson will build relationships within the congressional and executive branches in addition to overseeing industry relations for the company. Rawlson will report to Aveta president and CEO, Dr. Richard Shinto.

“With the impending healthcare reform, it’s important for Aveta to be well represented at both the state and federal levels,” said Richard Shinto, M.D., president and CEO of Aveta. “Jon’s experience in government relations, coupled with his healthcare background, makes him a perfect fit for this position.”

Rawlson has a strong background in both healthcare and government affairs. Most recently he was a Senior Advisor at Baker Hostetler, a top 100 law firm in the U.S., where he focused on legislative and regulatory issues in the healthcare industry. Prior to that, he served as vice president for PharMerica, AmerisourceBergen’s long-term care subsidiary; managed business development and government relations for Gentiva Health Services, the nation’s largest home health provider; and was regional director and lobbyist for the Florida Medical Association. Rawlson also directed the development of two national trade associations for healthcare providers: The Long Term Care Pharmacy Alliance and the Specialty Biopharmaceutical Distribution Association.

During the Reagan administration, Rawlson served as policy advisor to the Commissioner of Social Security (HHS) and was chief of staff and press secretary to the director of the United States Mint during the George H.W. Bush administration.

“So much debate surrounds the healthcare industry today,” said Rawlson. “It’s important for Aveta to have a voice in that conversation and I look forward to representing the company at the government level.”

Rawlson earned a bachelor’s degree with a focus on political science and government from Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Okla. He also attended the Executive Management Institute at Babson College in Wellesley, Mass. He is a frequent speaker on the topic of the Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit and has published articles on the same topic.
