Technology highlighted as strategy to reduce diagnosis error
ANN ARBOR, Mich.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Isabel Healthcare announced today that it has been recognized by the Pennsylvania Patient Safety Authority as a core strategy to assist in reducing diagnosis error.
The September Patient Safety Advisory (http://www.patientsafetyauthority.org/ADVISORIES/AdvisoryLibrary/2010/Sep7(3)/Pages/76.aspx) published by the Pennsylvania Patient Safety Authority reviews the common causes of diagnosis error, those diagnoses most effected by diagnosis error and risk reduction strategies that facilities, diagnosing physicians, and patients themselves can undertake to decrease diagnostic error and increase patient safety.
Diagnosis error, whether misdiagnosis or delayed diagnosis, remains one of the leading causes of patient injury and an underlying cause of adverse patient safety related events. The associated downstream clinical, financial, and legal impact is burdensome to all involved, institutions, providers, insurers and most importantly patients.
“To have Isabel recognized by the Pennsylvania Patient Safety Authority as a strategy to assist in reducing diagnosis error is a tremendous honor,” said Jason Maude, Founder of Isabel Healthcare. “We understand the complexities and constraints of traditional diagnostic practices and believe Isabel’s tool complements and strengthens doctors’ expertise at the times they need it most. We are confident that Isabel Healthcare can play a significant role in helping to improve diagnosis quality.”
The Isabel application provides decision support for physicians at the first and most important point of the care process, the diagnosis decision. Getting the diagnosis right the first time has tremendous downstream clinical, financial and legal impact, especially now in the context of healthcare reform. The Isabel system has been shown to have a significant positive impact on diagnosis decision making and referral management.
