IOD Incorporated Announces Extension of Its PRISM Platform for Direct Program Integration

New enhancements will enable healthcare providers to meet Meaningful Use Stage 2 Final Rule Requirements

GREEN BAY, Wis., Sept. 6, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- IOD Incorporated, a leading provider of integrated HIM solutions to hospitals, IDNs, healthcare systems and clinics, today announced a significant platform extension that will enable its Web-based release of information (ROI) management, tracking and reporting platform, PRISM®, to facilitate secure electronic exchange of health information via the Direct Project. The Direct Project integration represents an industry first for release of information providers. The enhancement to PRISM® will enable healthcare providers to securely share meaningful information electronically between themselves and with their patients, replacing current manual and less secure methods, particularly the fax machine. IOD's development conforms to the standards established by the Nationwide Health Information Network (NwHIN) endorsed Direct Project sponsored by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT and specified in the Stage 2 Meaningful Use Final Rule.

The Direct Project's specifications establish universal, secure, scalable standards that address and support core Stage 1 and Stage 2 Meaningful Use measures, which define the use of electronic health records (EHR) and related technology. These measures determine whether organizations will receive payments from the federal government for compliance. In December 2011, IOD announced its achievement of more Meaningful Use criteria certifications than any other ROI vendor in the industry.

"In anticipation of the Meaningful Use Stage 2 Final Rule released on August 23, 2012, IOD has been looking ahead to make sure all of the regulatory changes which put pressure on our customers can be met through a combination of our advanced technology and services offerings. Now that the Final Rule has been released, and Direct Project interoperability is a requirement that all doctors and hospitals will have to implement, we are proud to be announcing our industry first integration so our customers will immediately have access to this important new method of securely exchanging health information," says William J Sweeney, CTO of IOD. "The move to the electronic health record is rapidly changing the way health information is shared between those who possess it and those who desire it, regardless of purpose. The Direct Project integration is just one more step in IOD's continual effort to be at the leading edge of the evolution of health information management in the 21st century."
