Xofigo® an injectable agent which uses a safe form of radiation to treat prostate cancer that has spread to the bones even after receiving medical or surgical therapy, was recently approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This novel treatment specifically directs radiation treatments to cancer cells in bone, sparing patients the side effects associated with other forms of radiation. It is the first and only alpa particle-emitting radioactive therapeutic agent approved by the FDA that has demonstrated a significant improvement in overall survival.
