Industry Veteran Alan W. Portela Joins Board of AirStrip Technologies, Inc.

25-year healthcare executive and IT strategist also acting as top advisor

SAN ANTONIO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Alan W. Portela, a leading voice on the future of information technology and meaningful use in healthcare, has been named to the Board of Directors of AirStrip Technologies, Inc., company officials announced today.

Portela assumed the new role effective Jan. 1, 2011, and will also serve as a senior strategic advisor to AirStrip.

“Alan is a brilliant strategic thinker who understands the industry inside out, and has the vision to carry our innovative solution suite forward,” AirStrip Technologies President and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Cameron Powell said. “Alan is a thought leader in the area of mobility and how it fits into meaningful use. As healthcare moves further along that road, Alan will work with us to develop AirStrip’s growing role in improving patient safety.”

Portela has played a key role in driving the development of strategies toward the adoption of electronic health records (EHR), and spearheaded efforts by both the Military Health System and a large portion of the Veterans Health Administration to select and deploy EHRs.

Portela is also noted for helping to pioneer the ‘Best of Suite’ approach to the adoption of EHRs, a method that combines clinical systems deployment around their ability to automate functional gaps. Portela frequently speaks and writes about technology in healthcare for national organizations and industry journals.

“Healthcare organizations have invested enormous sums of money in a scramble to find a comprehensive EHR solution, without real success to date,” Portela noted. “AirStrip Technologies will play a critical role by offering a solution suite that strengthens patient safety, reduces risk levels and improves communication among clinicians – three components that will help achieve the meaningful use goal.”

Providing the unprecedented ability for physicians and nurses to monitor patients in a variety of acute care settings, the software solutions from AirStrip Technologies securely send critical patient information directly from hospital monitoring systems, bedside devices, and electronic health records to a clinician’s smartphone or tablet. AirStrip applications are powered over wireless networks, delivering virtual real-time and historic, interactive waveform and relevant clinical data.
