Industry Experts Briefed on Bio-Intervention Specialists’ Electro-BioCide, an Innovative Disinfectant for Reducing H

Bio-Intervention Specialists invited to present to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the House Veterans’ Affairs Subcommittee on Health and the healthcare group purchasing organization MedAssets

DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Bio-Intervention Specialists’ Electro-BioCide, a hospital-grade, environmentally friendly hard-surface disinfectant that uses a radically different kill mechanism to destroy “superbugs,” was recently discussed by industry experts as part of the national conversation on new technology and best practices for reducing hospital-acquired infections.

This past month, Tom Boyer, president and CEO of Bio-Intervention Specialists, had the opportunity to brief the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta; the House Veterans’ Affairs Subcommittee on Health in Washington, D.C.; and hospital administrators attending the 2011 MedAssets Technology and Innovation Forum, held in St. Louis, Mo.

At CDC headquarters in Atlanta, the Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion offered four companies the opportunity to present innovative technology to senior leaders. Boyer discussed Electro-BioCide’s unique disinfection properties as the cornerstone of the Bio-Intervention Terminal Disinfection ToolKit, which also applies next-generation electrostatic spraying technology and advanced training to improve patient safety in healthcare facilities.

Boyer was also one of several healthcare industry leaders invited to Washington, D.C., to participate in a roundtable discussion with the House Veterans’ Affairs Subcommittee on Health. The meeting, entitled “Innovative Private Sector Technologies to Improve Patient Safety,” was called to inform the subcommittee of emerging technologies that have a significant potential to drive down the rate of hospital-acquired infections across the entire Veterans Health Administration system.

Commenting on the presentation by Bio-Intervention Specialists, Shane Barker, senior legislative associate of Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, said, “I found Electro-BioCide to be truly innovative and something that shows great promise for helping combat the challenge of infections our servicemen and women face at home and overseas.”

Bio-Intervention Specialists was also selected by MedAssets, one of the nation’s largest healthcare group purchasing organizations, to participate in its Technology and Innovation Forum last month. Designed to help MedAssets’ customers access innovative and ground-breaking technologies, this forum was geared toward technologies that improve the quality of patient care, support facilities’ environmental initiatives and fulfill a significant industry need.

“We have been pleased about these exclusive opportunities to discuss Electro-BioCide and the Bio-Intervention Terminal Disinfection ToolKit with leading industry experts and are encouraged by the attention being given to new disinfection options within healthcare,” said Boyer. “We continue to be convinced of the uniqueness of Electro-BioCide and believe in its ability to help drive down the rate of hospital-acquired infections and significantly improve patient safety and quality.”

About Electro-BioCide™

Unlike legacy disinfectants that typically poison microorganisms, Electro-BioCide eliminates pathogens via a revolutionary “electrically triggered” kill process. Photographs captured by a scanning electron microscope reveal an almost complete disintegration of the bacterial cell wall when exposed to Electro-BioCide, greatly reducing the risk of mutation of microorganisms and the development of resistance. Electro-BioCide destroys a broad-spectrum of microorganisms (>99.9999% effectiveness), including MRSA, VRE, Acinetobacter baumannii, Klebsiella pneumoniae, VRSA, Trichophyton mentagrophates, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Influenza A (H1N1), and Norovirus, and is highly effective against Clostridium difficile spores (99.9997% effectiveness). Certified third-party toxicity testing identified Electro-BioCide as an EPA Category IV product – the least toxic rating possible for disinfectants. Electro-BioCide is applied using a unique electrostatic spraying system that maximizes product coverage on surfaces to further improve the terminal disinfection process.
