Implantable Provider Group Contracts with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina as Its Implantable Device Benefit M

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Implantable Provider Group (IPG) is pleased to announce an agreement with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, Inc. (BCBSNC) to provide implantable device management for participating providers in its extensive provider network. IPG will handle device coordination, billing, replacement, tracking and other services for participating providers in BCBSNC’s statewide ambulatory surgery center (ASC) and hospital outpatient network. Opportunities to participate in the new reimbursement model using IPG will be made available through new contracts with BCBSNC. BCBSNC serves more than 3.7 million customers in North Carolina.

“The cost and complexities involved in managing and maintaining implantable devices can be a major barrier to stand-alone outpatient surgical facilities performing routine surgical procedures,” said Lisa Cade, Vice President of Network Management for BCBSNC. “This new relationship will relieve participating facilities of the financial burden of the implant. This makes it simple and affordable for them to offer surgical services and high quality implantable devices across all specialties, from plates and screws used in orthopedics to defibrillators in cardiology. The IPG solution creates a more cost effective as well as convenient solution for both the procedure and the implant.”

“IPG is excited to be working with BCBSNC to streamline the management and delivery of implantable medical devices and eliminate the complexity and financial risks associated with the billing and reimbursement process for providers. This will subsequently give them the ability to either continue to acquire, or begin to acquire the implantable technologies that their physicians desire for the necessary treatment of their patients, without having to take on the financial challenges and risk of reimbursement on the implants,” said Jay Ethridge, President and Chief Executive Officer for IPG.

IPG streamlines the management and delivery of implantable medical devices by working directly with commercial insurance payors, clinical providers and facilities, and medical device manufacturers through its Implantable Device Benefit Management (DBM) program. The DBM program eliminates the complexity and the financial risks associated with the billing and reimbursement processes for providers, ensuring that patients maintain access to innovative life-saving and life-enhancing device-intensive medical therapies.

Founded in 2004, IPG primarily focuses on large, fast-growth device intensive markets, such as cardiology, neurology, orthopedic and spine implants.
