IASIS Healthcare Selects QuadraMed for Coding Improvement and ICD-10 Preparation

16-hospital system to implement Quantim®solutions to enhance coding processes and mitigate risk of productivity loss during the ICD-10 transition

RESTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- QuadraMed® Corporation, a leading provider of healthcare technologies and services that help turn quality care into positive financial outcomes, announced today that IASIS Healthcare, which operates 16 healthcare facilities across six states, has selected QuadraMed’s coding, compliance, and reporting solutions as part of its efforts to continually improve coding practices and transition to the ICD-10 code sets in 2013. QuadraMed is planning to implement Quantim Coding in all IASIS facilities within the next 30 days. Quantim Compliance, Ad Hoc Report Writer and the ICD-10 Simulator solutions will be implemented in all facilities by the end of this year.

IASIS selected QuadraMed’s Health Information Management solutions largely due to the company’s Quantim ICD-10 Coding Simulator offering. QuadraMed’s ICD-10 Simulator is the only product in the market that enables hospital coders to learn and practice ICD-10 coding in a live production environment. In addition, the knowledge-based structure of Quantim’s coding solution will help the IASIS staff manage the 20-fold increase in the number of codes they will use for coding and billing purposes when ICD-10 becomes mandatory on October 1, 2013.

“Moving to QuadraMed is a foundational step in transitioning IASIS to ICD-10,” said Kyle McElroy, director of health information management operations for IASIS. “The tools in the Quantim suite, including the ICD-10 Simulator, will provide an excellent pathway toward our transition from an operational standpoint. In addition, Quantim’s knowledge-based solution will enable us to strengthen internal review processes, while helping us to flag issues for regulatory compliance, enhance care documentation processes and capture charges.”

Quantim’s ability to generate the specific coding reports at the facility, regional and enterprise levels also will provide IASIS with a much-needed management tool for improving revenue cycle operations and coding productivity. “One of the benefits we particularly like is the ability to set up our own ‘smart tips’ to generate certain flags for charge or coding-related issues,” said McElroy.

“The selection of Quantim by one of the country’s leading health systems validates the key strategic role our proven solutions play in helping healthcare providers make a smooth transition to ICD-10 with minimal productivity disruptions,” commented Duncan W. James, QuadraMed’s CEO.

The Quantim ICD-10 Coding Simulator, which is remotely hosted, requires no special hardware or IT interface. The simulator comes with embedded coding guidelines, ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS code books, and GEMs (general equivalence mapping) bi-directional translation capabilities. This educational tool helps prepare coders for the ICD-10 transition to mitigate productivity losses during the transition period. After Oct. 1, 2013, health systems that do not use ICD-10 will risk losing part of their reimbursement from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
