HHS Secretary Sebelius, U.S. Attorney General Holder to Participate in Regional Health Care Fraud Prevention Summit in Chi

Federal, state, and local partners gather for summit to discuss fraud prevention efforts

--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS):

   

WHAT:

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and Attorney General Eric Holder will deliver remarks at a Health Care Fraud Prevention and Enforcement Action Team (HEAT) regional summit in Chicago. The summit will bring together federal, state, and local partners; prosecutors and investigators; and representatives of both beneficiaries and providers to highlight fraud prevention efforts, provide information about how patients and companies in the public and private sector can protect themselves from fraud, and discuss innovative ways to eliminate fraud in the U.S. health care system. The summit will include presentations featuring law enforcement officials, consumer experts, providers, and key government agencies. Immediately following their remarks, the Secretary and Attorney General will participate in a media availability.
 
On June 8, 2010, President Obama announced as part of a multi-faceted effort to crack down on Medicare fraud, a nationwide series of health care fraud prevention summits hosted by the Departments of Justice and Health and Human Services. To date, summits have taken place in Miami, Los Angeles, Boston, Brooklyn, Detroit, and Philadelphia.
