Horizon Enterprise Revenue Management™to help enhance patient experience
ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- As healthcare reform moves the industry toward a model that more keenly focuses on the customer, providers are turning to information systems that address the full spectrum of patient needs. To meet that challenge, Methodist Medical Center of Illinois, a 353-bed hospital in Peoria, and Central Florida Health Alliance, a healthcare system that includes two hospitals as well as outpatient facilities, recently became the latest organizations to contract for McKesson Horizon Enterprise Revenue Management™.
The healthcare providers plan to use the solution as a means to reinvent their revenue management operations while improving the overall experience for their patients. They are counting on the solution, which combines rules-based software with connectivity services, to help increase efficiency enterprise-wide and meet the challenges presented by the industry’s move toward consumer-directed care.
“Delivering superior service to our patients continues to be a priority for us,” said Calvin MacKay, senior vice president and chief financial officer, Methodist Medical Center. “We have had success with McKesson’s clinical solutions, and we expect to make the patient experience even better with the addition of this next-generation revenue cycle management system.”
Because the solution supports revenue management across the enterprise – instead of in separate inpatient and outpatient silos – hospital staff and patients should no longer need to navigate a complex revenue maze. Instead, the solution is designed so that staff members can easily access comprehensive financial information, regardless of where care was delivered. Similarly, patients will receive a single bill for all services provided from various entities in the healthcare enterprise.
The solution also supports a positive patient experience by moving revenue management processes to the front-end of the patient encounter. Scheduling, insurance verification, insurance authorization, financial counseling, point-of-service collections and health information management are handled as patients cross the care threshold — not weeks or months after services are delivered. This makes it possible to more accurately predict financial responsibility for all constituents, which is becoming increasingly important to patients as they pay for a larger share of their healthcare costs.
“This revenue management solution will greatly reduce the complexity of our information technology systems by eliminating bolt-on products and integrating with our clinical solutions,” added MacKay.
The ability to integrate with clinical systems also was a major motivating factor in Central Florida Health Alliance’s decision to adopt the revenue cycle management solution. The combination of McKesson’s revenue management with its clinical suite is designed to empower health enterprises with advanced capabilities to meet demands for improved performance across the board - clinical, operational and financial.
“We need to be on the same platform throughout our organization so that all of the data coming from various clinical and financial systems are synchronized,” said Dale Hocking, chief financial officer, Central Florida Health Alliance. “With McKesson’s enterprise revenue management solution, we will have that high level of compatibility and won’t have to build and manage a variety of expensive interfaces.”
“The pioneering leaders at these organizations recognize the need to transform their revenue management processes and business operations in an effort to meet—or exceed—patient expectations,” said Loren Buysman, senior vice president and general manager, Revenue Cycle, McKesson Provider Technologies. “Our solution was built with the advanced features and functions that will make it possible for them to turn their visions of what a healthcare system should do in a consumer-centric environment into a daily reality for their patients.”
McKesson is a leader in helping healthcare organizations to optimize their revenue cycle management, with a strong customer partnership philosophy and more than 30 years of healthcare financial management experience.
