Health Alliance of Greater Cincinnati Selects Courion to Streamline Operations and Improve Compliance

Courion’s AccountCourier automates provisioning for major Cincinnati healthcare system

WESTBOROUGH, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Courion® Corporation, leaders in access governance, provisioning and compliance, today announced that the Health Alliance of Greater Cincinnati has selected Courion’s AccountCourier user provisioning solution to enhance its identity and access management (IAM) and risk management strategies by automating provisioning for its 6,000 employees and by increasing adherence to compliance requirements.

The Health Alliance of Greater Cincinnati is an integrated healthcare delivery system consisting of University Hospital, Drake Center, West Chester Medical Center, and the Alliance Primary Care group. The Health Alliance is also affiliated with the University of Cincinnati (UC) Physicians, the multispecialty practice group for the UC College of Medicine.

The Health Alliance was dissatisfied with the accuracy and enterprise functionality of its existing provisioning solution and was also unhappy with the lack of system flexibility, scalability and transparency the solution provided. Although they had an automated provisioning solution in place, the Health Alliance was still creating, modifying and terminating user accounts manually – a time-consuming, costly process prone to error. Manual provisioning processes were making it difficult for the Information Technology (IT) staff to identify which users had access to what information and to adhere to compliance requirements such as HIPAA and privacy laws.

Courion’s feature-rich provisioning solution will enable the Health Alliance to automate its IAM processes, resulting in timely provisioning of new users and users who have changed business roles, as well as deprovisioning of terminated users. Courion’s solution will also increase compliance and strengthen the organization’s overall risk management strategy by allowing the IT staff to certify appropriate user access and immediately remediate inappropriate user access – ensuring only the right people have the right access to the right resources and are doing the right things. AccountCourier will also automate the creation and management of roles; provide access data on demand through automated auditing and reporting; and enable the business to manage access for employees and contractors directly. Additional benefits of Courion’s solution include increased operational efficiency and reduced expenses.

The Health Alliance has been a customer of Courion since 2004, when it purchased PasswordCourier to implement self-service password resets. PasswordCourier enabled the Health Alliance to eliminate 150 calls to its help desk per week. The Health Alliance considered two other IAM providers, but selected Courion’s extensible IAM solution because of its success with PasswordCourier and because of the scalability and flexibility of the accompanying system. By choosing Courion’s provisioning solution, the Alliance will leverage the existing infrastructure and investment that is already in production for PasswordCourier.

“We really needed a provisioning solution that would demonstrate value and ROI quickly. PasswordCourier has been so successful for us that we turned to Courion for our other identity management solutions,” said Tim Kendrick, manager, Systems Services. “Courion’s solution provides the perfect combination of access assurance and compliance management, and the system is so flexible we can completely customize it.”

The Health Alliance also purchased Courion’s RoleCourier and ComplianceCourier solutions, which will be implemented at a later date.

“Automating the management of user access bolsters a company’s risk management strategy by increasing compliance and ensuring only certified employees have access to sensitive information,” said Chris Sullivan, vice president of customer solutions for Courion. “The Health Alliance of Greater Cincinnati has seen the positive results of an integrated IAM strategy and is taking the necessary steps to improve its risk management capabilities.”
