GE Healthcare Expands Commitment to The Health Management Academy

GE healthymagination and The Academy to bring leadership development and best practice resources to senior health system executives as they develop new strategies and models for delivering effective, efficient health care at lower cost

WAUWATOSA, Wis.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- GE Healthcare today announced it will expand its collaboration with The Health Management Academy (The Academy) over the next five years. This extended commitment emphasizes GE’s dedication to working alongside the nation's health systems to address or eliminate challenges to delivering better health and outcomes to more people at lower cost.

The Health Management Academy operates expert peer networks of senior management-level executives of the top health systems in the United States as well as other industry leaders supporting these health systems. The Academy’s membership collectively represents over 50 percent of hospital revenue in the United States.

“We are excited about GE Healthcare’s continued collaboration with The Academy,” said Sherrie Jones, president of The Health Management Academy. “As a valued thought leader in the health care industry, GE Healthcare will continue to be a key partner alongside The Academy and its members in preparing senior executive leaders of the leading health systems to identify the new opportunities that will help improve the quality and efficiency of care while enhancing patient outcomes.”

GE Healthcare has supported The Health Management Academy since 2006, with the development of The Academy GE Fellows Program for Physician Executives. The Academy GE Fellows Program provides training and mentoring to high potential, health system-level, physician leaders drawn from The Academy's membership. To date, 30 Fellows have been selected to participate in the program to prepare them for assuming top leadership positions within their health systems. With the expansion of the collaboration, The Academy GE Fellows Program will grow to include a Senior Executive Fellows Program and a Chief Financial Officer Fellows Program.

“In the increasingly complex healthcare environment, it is imperative to facilitate dialogue among those who deliver care to ensure we learn from the successes across the industry,” said Rob Reilly, GM Performance Solutions – Americas, GE Healthcare. “Through The Academy, we hope to better prepare emerging leaders across the industry to tackle these difficult issues as they assume top health system leadership positions in the future.”

The expanded collaboration will strive to develop the critical leadership skills required to succeed in a post-reform healthcare system. The Academy and GE Healthcare will continue to work closely together to give executives the necessary skills to lead in this dynamic environment.

“The Academy GE Fellows Program provided me unique and invaluable knowledge and perspectives on becoming a leader at the health system-level of my organization,” said Dr. Jeff Weiss, medical director, Montefiore Medical Center.
